What to
Expect

Therapy here doesn't follow a script. But it helps to know what the experience is likely to feel like — especially if you've never done this kind of work before, or if what you've tried before didn't quite fit.

01

The free consultation

Before anything else, we meet for 15 minutes. There's no intake form to fill out beforehand, no obligation, and no expectation that you'll have everything figured out. The consultation is a conversation — a chance to hear a little about what brings you to therapy, share how I work, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. Many people feel nervous before this call. That's normal, and it doesn't have to be polished.

02

The first few sessions

The initial sessions are an intake. We'll spend time understanding your history, what you're carrying, and what you're hoping for. I'll ask questions that might feel unexpected: not just about symptoms or goals, but about your relationships, your early life, how you experience your body, what you've already tried. This isn't small talk. It's how I begin to understand the whole person, not just the presenting problem. You don't need to arrive with a clear narrative. Confusion and ambivalence are welcome.

03

What the work actually looks like

Sessions at Vea Psychotherapy are not primarily talk therapy in the traditional sense. While conversation is part of the work, the approach is experiential — meaning we pay attention to what's happening in the body, in the room, and in the relationship between us, not just to the story being told. Depending on what you're working through, sessions might include EMDR processing, somatic awareness practices, exploring attachment patterns as they show up in real time, or simply sitting with something that's hard to put into words. The pace is yours.

04

How progress happens — and how it doesn't

Progress in depth-oriented therapy rarely looks like a straight line. It's common to feel better, then worse, then different. Insight arrives and doesn't immediately change anything. Old patterns resurface in new situations. This is not a sign that therapy isn't working — it's often a sign that something real is being touched. The goal isn't to eliminate difficulty. It's to develop a different relationship with it: more capacity, more choice, more access to yourself.

05

Practical details

All sessions are held virtually via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are 50 minutes. The rate is $250 per session. I do not bill insurance directly, but I can provide a monthly superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I see adults throughout Florida. Most clients begin with weekly sessions and adjust frequency as the work progresses.

A note on fit

This work isn't for everyone

Depth-oriented, experiential therapy requires a willingness to slow down, to tolerate uncertainty, and to stay with difficulty rather than immediately problem-solve it. It tends to work best for people who sense that something important is happening beneath the surface — people who have tried to think their way out of patterns that keep returning, and who are beginning to wonder whether a different kind of work might be needed.

If you're looking for structured skill-building, a short-term protocol, or a primarily cognitive approach, there are excellent therapists who specialize in exactly that. The free consultation is a genuine opportunity to figure out whether this particular approach — and this particular therapist — is the right fit for where you are right now.
