Anxiety, Chronic Stress
& Feeling Stuck

When worry, self-doubt, or a pervasive sense of being stuck has become the background noise of your life.

When your mind
won't rest

Anxiety is more than worry. It's the constant scanning for what could go wrong, the difficulty settling into the present moment, the physical tension that never fully releases. Many people living with anxiety are high-functioning on the outside while quietly exhausted on the inside — managing, performing, and preparing, even when there's nothing immediate to prepare for.

Chronic stress and the feeling of being stuck often share the same roots. There's a sense that no matter how much you do, think through, or try to control, something essential remains just out of reach. Life feels like it's happening to you rather than through you. The gap between who you are and who you want to be can feel impossibly wide.

What's often missed is that anxiety isn't a flaw or a weakness. It's a protective pattern — a nervous system that learned to stay alert, to anticipate, to never fully exhale. At some point, that vigilance made sense. It kept you safe, prepared, or acceptable. The problem is that the nervous system doesn't always know when the threat has passed. For many people, anxiety is closely connected to unprocessed trauma or the relentless pressure of high achievement and perfectionism.

This might sound familiar

  • Your mind races through worst-case scenarios even when nothing is actually wrong — and you can't turn it off

  • You're productive and capable on the outside, but quietly exhausted from the effort of keeping it together

  • You seek reassurance, feel briefly better, then need it again — and the cycle never fully resolves

  • You overthink decisions long after they're made, replaying what you said or should have said

  • Your body holds the anxiety even when your mind can't explain it — tension, shallow breathing, a stomach that never fully settles

  • You understand your patterns, you've done the reading, and yet something keeps you responding the same way

How we
work together

Therapy for anxiety at Vea is experiential and body-informed. We work not just with the thoughts that drive anxiety, but with the nervous system patterns underneath them — the places where the body still holds an old alarm. This may include somatic approaches, EMDR, mindfulness-based work, and attachment-focused exploration, depending on what's most relevant to your experience.

We'll also look at the function anxiety has served in your life. What has it protected you from? What would it mean to let it go? These aren't rhetorical questions — they often point toward the deeper work.

The goal isn't to eliminate anxiety entirely. It's to build a different relationship with it — one where you can notice it, understand what it's trying to protect, and respond from choice rather than react from fear. Over time, the nervous system learns that it's safe to settle.
